By Justin Daniels | Oct 16, 2023 6:29 PM

The Indians traveled to Upland Indiana Saturday morning for the Cross Country Sectional. After a solid year by everyone on the team it was time to put it all on the line in hopes of advancing to the next round. Like Tennis, Wrestling and Track, Cross Country is not a class sport so you are lining up against small schools and large schools. The boys got things started and once the gun went off Conner Walser, Bradin Daniels, Levi Clark and Scott O'Connor were on the gas. At the first mile all four runners went through in under 6:15 with Walser leading the way with a 5:09 first mile. Conner had hopes if running a sub 17 min race but that will wait until next week as the wet grass made for slower times. Walser battled in the top 7 throughout the race before falling back some but still managed to achieve the goal of advancing. Conner placed 15th with a time of 17:37. Bradin Daniels was the next Indian to cross as he finished in 73rd with a time of 19:47. While this may have not been Bradin's best race of the season he was able to hook Levi Clark up to him and pull him along to help him run his second best race of the season. Bradin came into the sectional with minimal experience but proved that he can compete. Levi Clark came in one spot behind Bradin as he finished 74th with a time of 19:48. Clark ran his second best race of the year and looked great throughout the race as he was able to make big passes on his way to the finish. Levi has been a big contributor to the team since day one. Scott O'Connor let the team know that he was going to PR and he did just that. O'Connor crossed the line in 91st with a time of 22:23. Nearly two minutes faster than he ran on the same course in August. Scotty is going to keep getting better and we can't wait to see him next season. Ava Jefferis was cool and calm before the girls race and that led to her running the race of her life. Ava sprinted off the line as the gun went off and she was able to run in the top 25 all race. Once Jefferis crossed the line she placed 21st with a time of 21:44 and advacing to Fort Wayne. Ava beat her previous best by 29 seconds. Conner and Ava will he competing next Saturday morning in Fort Wayne at the New Haven Regional/Semi-State in hopes of advancing to the State Meet.
