The Indians traveled to Jay County on January 27th and walked away feeling good about the future of the program. The Indians placed 7th as a team against some of the top teams in the state. While the season ended for many of the wrestlers there were some awesome performances throughout the day. Bradin Daniels became the first sectional champion for the Indians since Jesus Ulloa achieved it nine years ago. Bradin not only became a sectional champion he also was able to avenge a loss to Cody Rowles that had been stuck in the back of his mind since the regional last season. Austin Roth was the second Indian to punch his ticket to the Jay County Regional after beating Luke Dreiband from Norwell. After a third round loss Roth battled with Jay County's Jacob Robinson for 3rd place. After the time ran out Roth lost a battle to end up an impressive fourth place. 106 - Jose Perez-Contreras placed an impressive 5th place in his freshman year to be an alternate for the Regional. 126 - Bradin Daniels placed first and advance to Regional 138 - Gavin Elmore battled all day after facing a very tough Jarin Frauhiger and taking a loss he was able to fight his way back to a 6th place finish for the Indians. 144 - Wilson Aguilar-Mendez faced a very tough kid from Adams Central followed by another another tough match with a kid from Norwell. Wilson will be a bright spot for the Indians for years to come. The freshman gives it everything that he has. 150 - Austin Roth placed 4th and advanced to the Regional 157 - Caiden Roth had his season come to an end after wrestling two different battles. This being Caiden's first year of wrestling he did very well against some standout competition and we wish we had Caiden for the last four years. 165 - Josiah Plessinger was another wrestler that didn't get the draw that he needed on Saturday. Josiah in his freshman year did awesome but faced a Junior and Senior in his matches. His season may have came to an end but everyone he wrestled knew they were going to get everything he had to give them. 175 - Felix Cruz ended his career with a solid 6th place finish and something to be proud of as his weight class was stacked full of athletes like him. Felix battled after taking an early loss to go on to win two matches to get himself back in contention for an alternate spot. 190 - Xavier Hill finished his season going up against two outstanding seniors. Xavier battled all day and showed the sectional that he will be back next year ready to go to war. While the kids that Hill wrestled had competed in over 30 matches Hill had only competed in 15 due to being out part of the season. 215 - Hunter Newport lost a very tough match in the first round 4-1 which ended his day. Newport just being a freshman has been a great asset to the Indians and this time next year he will be making some noise at the sectional. Bradin and Austin will compete at the Jay County Regional on February 3rd While the season ended for many of the wrestlers this team has done a lot of great things and turned heads to many people in the area. With the the help of great kids and the awesome coaching staff we look forward to what the future holds for the Union City wrestling program!
