Season best for the Indians at New Haven

By Justin Daniels | Sep 26, 2022 10:32 AM

The Indians woke up early Saturday morning to make the drive to the New Haven Classic and also their first time running on the Semi-State course then got back on the bus with almost every single runner having their best race of the season. Ava Jefferis got the day started for the Indians in the Class A division as she lined up with 116 other girls from around the state and had her best race of the season and just 30 seconds off of her PR she set last year. Ava started the race fast and never looked back on a course that was full of rolling hills, a small creek and a lot of spectators. Ava crossed the finish line in 42nd place with a time of 23:49.20. There were 147 runners lined up for the boys race and the boys showed that they were ready to compete. Conner Walser had his best race of the season and was just one second from running his PR. Walser ran with the lead pack most of the race before crossing the finish line in 6th with a time of 17:28.30. Conner Cline had his best run of the season after coming off of an injury last week. Conner's goal at the beginning of the season was to get back in the sub 20 min range and he nearly did that on Saturday. Cline crossed the finish line in 73rd place with a time of 20:03.90. This was Conner's season best race by 16 seconds. Josiah Bowers had a PR day once again for the Indians and if you've been watching you will notice that he has raised the bar for himself every meet this year. Josiah lowered his time by six seconds this week running to a 135th place finish with a time of 24:06.20 Just 6 seconds away from being a sub 24 minute runner. Gavin Elmore once again did what he has done all season and that is start near the back of the pack then make a surge to pass as many runners as he can in the last mile of the race. Gavin has become one of the best to do this and did it Saturday passing 6 or 7 runners with roughly 600m to go and crossing the finish line in 137th place with a time of 24:17.20 and beating his previous best time by over a minute. Scott O'Connor had a great race as well but got trapped near the back on the start and was unable to get going like he has been able to this season but showed everyone that if you are near him he is going to give it all he has to out kick you at the finish. Scott crossed the finish line in 146th place with a time of 28:57.70. The Indians are back in action on Tuesday at Union High School for the Randolph County meet with JH Girls getting things started at 5:00pm.
