Updated Story: UC wins first ever Baseball Regional Championship

Written and permission given by Jesus Jimenez to publish: Thank You Jesus LOGANSPORT, Ind. – Class A No. 7-ranked Union City made history, claiming the program’s first regional championship with a thrilling 7-6 victory over No. 6 Wes-Del in the IHSAA Class A Regional championship on Saturday, June 1, at Logansport High School. Brayden Huggins went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base, while Brennen Hoggatt drove in three runs and had two hits, including a double. Jayson Connor and Corbin Richards each also had two hits, while Owen Dowler tripled, Trendon Spence doubled and Zack Fulk also had a hit. Richards, Fulk, Spence and Caleb Lutz each tallied an RBI, while Richards scored twice and Connor, Dowler and Spence each scored once. Connor picked up the victory on the mound, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Fulk, walking four and striking out five. Fulk took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but did not get a decision, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing six runs – five earned – on seven walks and two hits, while striking out four. The Indians improve to 16-6 and advance to the semistate next Saturday against No. 3 Lafayette Central Catholic, the reigning state champion in Class A. The Knights (22-5) defeated Frontier 22-1 to win their regional. Details for the semistate have not yet been announced.
