Four Union City players hit for double figures in 61-49 win over Blackhawks

By The News-Gazette Rick Reed News-Gazette Sports Editor Union City picked up its first win of the season Tuesday defeating Mississinawa Valley 61-49. Four Indians, Cam LaFuze, Conner Walser, Angel Nieto, and Zack Fulk, finished in double figures leading Union City to its most productive offensive effort of the season. Although the Indians found themselves behind 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, a second period surge (17-9) gave Union City a 28-22 halftime advantage. The state-line opponents played even in the third quarter keeping the six point lead in the Indians’ hands. Outscoring the Blackhawks 16-10 in the last eight minutes of play ensured the Union City victory. LaFuze led all scorers with 22 points. Walser finished with 15 points, Nieto added 11 points, and Fulk had 10 points. Colton Emrick contributed three points to the UC cause. Blackhawks claim reserve decision A talented MV junior varsity defeated Union City 57-41. The Indians got off to a rocky start, but played a tight game with the Blackhawks after the first quarter. UC was led by Caleb Lutz with 12 points. Quincy Middaugh added seven points, Ronnie Dotson and Johnta Hill had six points each, Brayden Huggins and Keegan Livingston contributed four points each, and Luke Collins had two points. Union city hosts Winchester Friday at 6:00.
