Thanks to Rick Reed News-Gazette Sports Editor for permission to publish story; Varsity Baseball Union City 4, Northeastern 3 (8 innings) The Indians are giving us their best version of the Cardiac Kids. Union City's baseball team on Tuesday won its second straight game by a 4-3 margin, both Tri-Eastern Conference games, and improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the league. The Indians control their own destiny to win their first TEC baseball team since sharing the crown with Lincoln in 1986. The school's only other conference championship was in 1973 led by Hall of Famer Steve Reish. Senior Jude Connor lined a two-out double to centerfield in the top of the eighth inning to bring home Owen Dowler to provide the game-winning hit for the Indians. Zack Fulk, working his second inning of relief for Cam LaFuze, retired the Knights in order in the bottom of the eighth as Union City celebrated a most significant victory. Jude Connor had a big day at the plate with three hits, Corbin Richards had two hits, a double and two RBI and Owen Dowler had a pair of hits. Cam LaFuze started on the mound and was dominant again, striking out 12 in six and a third innings. He walked just one, allowed just five hits and two earned runs. Fulk picked up the win in relief, improved to 2-1 and lowered his earned run average to 1.35. The Indians were scheduled to face a big test on Wednesday against Wes-Del (9-2)
